Returns and refunds
TSH Auto Parts is the parts side of TSH Auto, a repair shop in North York, Ontario. We sell for pickup only, so returns work the same way — you bring the part back to the counter you bought it at. This page is exactly what happens when you do.

To change your mind. 25% restocking fee, part unused and as sold.
If it's faulty. We replace it, or refund in full. No fee.
We don't ship, so returns come back to the shop — no labels, no RMA.
What can come back
Almost everything we sell can be returned, on two conditions that never change: it comes back in the state it left in, and it comes back with proof that we sold it — your order number, the receipt we emailed you, or the label still on the part.
“The state it left in” means:
- Not installed, or installed and removed without damage — no cut connectors, no snapped tabs, no drilled or ground mounting points.
- Not taken apart. A module that has been opened, a headlight that has been split, a housing with the seal broken — that is a part we can no longer sell.
- With everything it came with: brackets, bolts, plugs, covers, the caps we put on the connectors.
- With our markings intact. Every part carries our internal number, and it is how we know the part in front of us is the one we sold you.
We photograph every part before it leaves the counter. Not to catch anybody out — it is simply how a used-parts shop can tell a fault it sold from damage that happened afterwards. If you would like a copy of those photos, ask and we will send them with your receipt.
Changed your mind — 14 days, 25% restocking fee
Wrong part, no longer needed, found a better option — no explanation required. Bring it back to the shop within 14 days of collecting it and we refund the price of the part less a 25% restocking fee.
The fee is not a penalty and it is not profit. A used part that leaves the building has to be re-checked, re-photographed, re-listed, put back in its bin and sold a second time, and for the days it was gone it was off the shelf and unavailable to the person who wanted it. That is the work the fee pays for, and it is why the fee applies whatever the reason — including a part that turned out not to fit a car whose VIN we were never asked to check.
It applies to every item we sell, used or new, at 25%. There is no category that costs more and none that costs less.
If the part does not match what the listing said it was — the wrong number, the wrong side, damage we did not mention — that is our mistake, not a change of mind. It comes back in full, fee and tax included, and we are sorry for the drive.
That is different from a part that fits the family we listed but not your particular car. Our vehicle lists are written at model level: “A4 2013–2016” means A4s of those years, not every A4 and not necessarily yours — an S4 shares that page and takes different parts. Checking the part number against your VIN is the step that catches this, and it is why we ask you to make that call before you buy.
Faulty part — 30 days, no fee
If a part does not work, that is a different conversation and there is no restocking fee. You have 30 days from collecting it. Because we are pickup-only, it works in person:
- Bring the part to the shop — and, if you can, the car it came off. 195 Oakdale Rd, North York, ON M3N 1W4, during our hours.
- Show us the fault. A short video or a photo of what the part does on the car is the fastest way through this. “It didn't work” on its own gives us nothing to test against.
- We test it ourselves. Most things we can check at the counter or on a bench in minutes. Something that needs a car and a bay may take longer, and we will tell you when to come back for the answer.
- If it is genuinely faulty, we replace it first. We look for another one of the same part on our own shelves and swap it, at no cost to you.
- If we have no replacement, you get all your money back — the full price and the tax, with no restocking fee deducted.
The order matters, so it is worth being plain about it: a replacement comes first, and money only when there is no replacement to give you. If we have the same part on our own shelf, that is what you get — you cannot choose the refund instead. It is the fastest way to put you back on the road, and it is the only version of this we can offer on one-of-a-kind used stock.
Electronics, modules and anything that needs coding
This is the section worth reading twice, because it is where almost every argument in this trade starts.
Control units, instrument clusters, infotainment and navigation units, ABS and airbag modules, transmission and engine computers, electric steering, driver-assist sensors, adaptive and LED headlights, amplifiers — these must be coded and adapted to your specific car with dealer-level equipment before they will work. A part that is perfect on the bench will sit dead in the car until that is done. On Audi and VW Group cars, infotainment also carries component protection, which only an online session with the manufacturer can lift.
We say this on the listing of every part we know needs it, and we will say it again at the counter. What follows from it:
- “I could not code it” is not a fault. A module that cannot be adapted because the equipment, the software or the online access was not available is not a defective module, and it does not qualify for the faulty-part refund above. It can still come back as a change-of-mind return, with the 25% fee, if it is undamaged and inside 14 days.
- A part damaged or locked during a coding attempt is not returnable at all. Bricked during a flash, locked out after failed attempts, killed by wrong voltage or a wrong pinout — by you or by another shop — is damage that happened after it left us, and we do not refund it.
- Check the fit before you buy. Every listing for a coded part shows the part number to quote. Call a dealer parts counter with that number and your VIN and ask whether it is the one your car takes — it costs nothing, it takes one call, and it is the only answer that is actually definitive.
We can usually do the coding here — we are a repair shop with the equipment. That is shop work, quoted and paid separately from the price of the part, and it is subject to whether we have the bay time. See installation and shop work.
What we don't refund
- Parts damaged after they left us — installed with force, wired wrong, dropped, opened, taken apart, or bricked during coding.
- Labour and third-party costs. What another shop charged you to fit or diagnose the part, towing, a rental car, lost work, a missed booking. Our responsibility is the part and what you paid for it — see the limit in our terms.
- A part that failed because of the car. If the fault that killed the original part is still there, it will kill the replacement too, and that is not a warranty claim.
- Anything past the window — 14 days for a change of mind, 30 for a fault, counted from the day you collected it.
- Anything we cannot identify as ours. No order number, no receipt, our markings removed — we have no way to know we sold it.
If your situation is not on either list, come and talk to us. This page is where we start from, not a machine we feed you into.
How the money comes back
Always the same way it came in. If you paid online by card, the refund goes back to that card through Stripe — we do not need the card, only the order. It usually shows up in five to ten business days, which is your bank's timing, not ours. If you paid at the counter, you are refunded at the counter the same way.
We refund the tax too, on whatever we refund. Worked through on a $400 part, so there is nothing to guess at:
| What you paid — $400 part, plus HST (13%) of $52 | $452 |
| Restocking fee — 25% of the $400 part price | −$100 |
| HST on that fee — a fee is a taxable service, so this part of the tax is not refunded | −$13 |
| Back to you | $339 |
So on a $400 part, changing your mind costs you $113: the $100 fee itself, and the $13 of tax on that fee, which we have to pass to the government either way.
On a faulty part there is no fee and none of this applies — the whole $452 comes back, price and tax both.
Cancelling before you collect
An order you have not picked up yet is easy: tell us and we cancel it, with a full refund and no restocking fee. Nothing has left the building, so there is nothing to restock — the part simply goes back on sale.
The one exception is the handling deposit some orders carry — a part big enough that getting it down off the racking is a two-person job, or an order with enough lines that picking it takes a while. Once that work is done the deposit has been earned and is not refunded, even if you decide not to take the part. Checkout tells you before you commit whether your order carries one; the rule is on the buying and pickup page.
We may also cancel an order ourselves — a part turns out to be damaged, already sold, or listed at an obviously wrong price. In that case you get everything back, in full, and we will tell you why.
Your rights under Ontario law
Nothing on this page takes away rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2002 or any other Ontario or Canadian law — including your right to a product that matches how it was described to you. Where the law gives you more than this policy does, the law wins. If you think we have got something wrong, tell us first: almost everything is settled faster at our counter than anywhere else.
Starting a return
There is no form. Message us from your order page, email or call — tell us the order number and what happened — then bring the part in. Letting us know first means the right person is expecting you and, on a faulty part, that we have already looked for a replacement.
